glamourdaze.blogspot.com and vintagemakeupguide.com An archive film exploring the mysteries of a 1950′s womans beauty salon, and though still run by men – it was the 1950′s after all – there is a noticable absense of the usual patronising narrator in this film compared to many of the beauty instruction films of that era. A pleasing glimpse at womens makeup,hairstyles and fashion of the late 1950′s in the USA. Courtesy of the Prelinger Archive

This is back when women only washed and styled their hair once a week. I loved this video!
omg 2 hrs a week *_* i’m like 30 minutes a month there!! XD
@AmberAlley yes a very enjoyable videos to watch and the hairdressers all wearing white starched uniforms
@VictoriasRoses * oh yes ? they were washing their hair only once a week in the fifties ? , me too I like this video
Another great video! That is when woman had the time to spend 2 hours a week at a salon! Times have sure changed!
My mother, who was first licensed in 1946 had those metal clips @4:03 until her death in 2006. I have them now in my collection-those things will never die! Too bad the quality of everything has gone downhill. They don’t hold that much hair but they do have a great grip-I never knew they were that old. I’m sure this is what her shop looked like in the 50s. As a stylist I treasure my weekly clients-they are a dying breed.
@JsgHair71 My aunt was a hairdresser in the 60′s and 70′s. She and my mom had tons of those clips. They were meant for making those little spit curls, holding the smaller rollers, or holding sections of hair up while you styled the hair on the lower part of your head.
Youtube has so many pages its crazy! Thought I would say hey after viewing your page.
I can’t wait for my facial!
The title to this video is missing an apostrophe in the word “womens”. There should be no apostrophe when referring to the “1950s”.
I laughed a bit at how the they try to delude themselves into thinking male hair stylists absolutely have to be straight, “because, after all, who is more appreciative of beautiful women than a man?”
@BellaSilvery Then perhaps you should change some priority in your daily time schedule.
@jericoba if only i had time…
These 1950′s videos are addictive
